In the city of Novyi Rozdil, Lviv region, a group of eight men brutally attacked Nestor Dydyk \u2014 a war veteran, volunteer soldier, and participant in the Revolution of Dignity.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred on May 21 around 11:00 p.m. on Shevchenko Avenue. Senior soldier Dydyk, currently serving in the Lviv Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC & SSC), was conducting military notification duties when he asked a civilian to present draft-related documents. The man responded with insults and aggression. Moments later, he returned with a group of seven others who violently assaulted Dydyk, throwing him to the ground and kicking him in the head.<\/p>\n
The beating was stopped only due to the intervention of fellow servicemen. Dydyk was urgently transported to the hospital by ambulance. Preliminary reports indicate he sustained facial hematomas and fractured ribs. His full diagnosis is still being assessed by doctors.<\/p>\n
Police have launched a criminal investigation under Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to intentional bodily harm of medium severity.<\/p>\n
Nestor Dydyk is a well-known civic activist who stood on Hrushevskoho Street during the 2014 Euromaidan protests, facing police batons and bullets. In 2022, he joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a volunteer and fought in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions as part of the 103rd Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces. Due to health issues, he was later reassigned to TRC & SSC duties.<\/p>\n
Despite his dedicated service and battlefield contributions, Dydyk once again faced life-threatening violence \u2014 this time from the very civilians he once protected. The Lviv Regional TRC & SSC issued a warning that such attacks on servicemen will not go unpunished and that perpetrators will face full legal consequences.<\/p>\n
