Customs officers uncovered fraudulent activities involving humanitarian cargo at the Poland border.<\/p>\n
At the ‘Shehyni – Medyka’ checkpoint, a 2011 MAN truck arrived from Poland. According to the customs declaration, the vehicle was to be delivered to a charity fund in Stryi as humanitarian aid. The head of the fund claimed that the truck was to be handed over to a military unit at the request of a lieutenant colonel, as confirmed by a copy of a serviceperson’s appeal.<\/p>\n
During the inspection, customs officers found that a lieutenant colonel with the stated name indeed serves in the mentioned unit. However, he never contacted the fund, the signature on the document was forged, and the military unit does not require such a vehicle.<\/p>\n
A protocol for customs rules violation has been filed against the 53-year-old head of the fund, who submitted a false declaration and forged appeal. The vehicle, valued at almost 2 million hryvnias, has been temporarily seized pending court review.<\/p>\n
