A team of pediatric surgeons and neonatologists<\/strong> at the Lviv Regional Perinatal Center successfully performed an operation that saved the life of a premature baby boy born with a congenital intestinal pathology.<\/p>\n \u201cThe baby was born prematurely \u2014 at the 33rd week of pregnancy \u2014 weighing 2,380 grams. The child could not process food and had respiratory disorders. Thanks to the multidisciplinary approach we apply in treating every infant, an intestinal pathology was diagnosed \u2014 necrotizing enterocolitis, congenital partial intestinal obstruction,\u201d<\/em> the perinatal center reported.<\/p>\n The newborn was operated on immediately. On the 22nd day of life, the boy was transferred to the post-intensive care unit for newborns and the care of premature babies, where his recovery continued for almost a month. The child strengthened and gained weight \u2014 weighing 3,030 grams \u2014 and on the 51st day after birth, the baby and his mother were discharged home.<\/p>\n \u201cWhy is neonatal surgery important in a perinatal center? Because in the first days of life, a child may develop acute conditions requiring urgent surgical intervention. Evidence-based medicine states: the transportation of newborns, especially those born prematurely and needing immediate surgical intervention, negatively affects their condition, complicating the treatment process.
