Orthopedists from the Children’s Medical Center conducted the next stage of treatment for a child with achondroplasia.<\/p>\n
Orthopedic-traumatologists from the Children’s Medical Center, Okhmatdyt Hospital, performed the next stage of complex surgical treatment on a 10-year-old girl from the Lviv region with a congenital skeletal development disorder \u2014 achondroplasia. Yulia from Novi Rozdil has been undergoing phased treatment aimed at correcting deformities and lengthening bones since early childhood. During this time, doctors have performed a series of complex operations using external fixation devices.<\/p>\n
Recently, specialists performed reconstructive interventions on both forearms \u2014 correcting deformities and lengthening bones. During the surgery, osteotomy and separate external fixation were used, allowing joint mobility to be maintained and rehabilitation to be accelerated.<\/p>\n
The treatment of achondroplasia is lengthy and continues until adulthood. It allows an increase in height by 35\u201345 cm and provides the child with maximum independence in daily life. “Our goal is not only to increase height but also to help the child move comfortably and feel confident among peers,”<\/em> said orthopedic-traumatologist Taras Moskal.
