In Lviv, discussions are under way on expanding the supply of prostheses<\/strong> and medical equipment from the USA for patients of the National Rehabilitation Centre NEZLAMNI (UNBROKEN). This was the focus of a meeting between Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, former US Army officer Corbett Landes and founder of the One World Strong Foundation, David Fortier.<\/p>\n Corbett Landes is a retired former infantry and intelligence officer in the US Army who lost a leg and uses a prosthesis. For the past three and a half years, in partnership with the US government, he has been developing a programme for large-scale deliveries of prostheses<\/strong> and medical equipment. According to him, when prostheses are being selected for veterans in the USA, around 10,000 unused devices remain each year, which are usually destroyed.<\/p>\n “It is like trying on shoes that do not fit you, but you cannot return them. So a patient receives a sample prosthesis, and if it does not fit, they hand it back. These unused prostheses are then simply destroyed. We are talking about around 10,000 such prostheses a year. We understand that we have a surplus of prostheses. So we have found a mechanism that makes it possible to use these prostheses free of charge and transfer them from the USA, for example, to the UNBROKEN foundation,” explains Corbett Landes.<\/p>\n Founder of the One World Strong Foundation, David Fortier, noted that Corbett Landes is keen to help Ukraine with prostheses, as well as with specialised medical equipment, including machines for repairing prostheses. According to him, they are currently considering the possibility that such assistance would be delivered to Lviv through the UNBROKEN foundation.<\/p>\n Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi presented to the guests the UNBROKEN (NEZLAMNI) ecosystem of humanity being developed in the city. He stressed that 90% of the rehabilitation centre’s patients are people from other cities and regions of Ukraine who are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Lviv. “I believe that we will have good cooperation. Today in Lviv we have many good examples of innovation in various fields. This is a very important component of our work in the areas of veterans’ policy, social policy, the economy and the environment. So innovation is our priority<\/strong>,” the Mayor of Lviv emphasised.<\/p>\n The National Rehabilitation Centre NEZLAMNI (UNBROKEN) is a place where adults and children affected by the war receive comprehensive medical care. It provides reconstructive surgery, orthopaedics, robotic prosthetics, prosthesis manufacturing, as well as physical, psychological and psychosocial rehabilitation for both military personnel and civilians.
