In 2023, surgeons of the First Medical Association of Lviv gave a chance for life to many patients from different parts of Ukraine. During this time, they performed 128 organ transplants. These are hearts, livers and kidneys, as well as lungs.
In particular, during the year, doctors transplanted 128 donor organs: 12 hearts, 95 kidneys, 17 livers, 2 lungs and, for the first time in Ukraine, one pancreas and kidney complex. Doctors also performed the first heart-lung transplant in Ukraine and a successful split liver transplant.
Most of the transplants were carried out by Lviv doctors together with specialists from the Feofania Hospital, the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and the O. Shalimov National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
“We are extremely grateful to our partner hospitals from different parts of Ukraine for their cooperation, because without their help we would not have achieved such successful results.
We are proud to share that 15 successful kidney transplants have been performed in our Center this year, the youngest patient was only 7 years old,” the Center for Transplantology of the First Medical Association of Lviv notes.
In total, over three years, 301 donor organs were transplanted in the First Medical Association of Lviv, giving people a chance for a full life.
