Cochlear implant for his birthday: a child from Transcarpathia received hearing thanks to doctors from Lviv Okhmatdyt

The Hearing Implants Program has started working in the hospital.

Odria – from twins, was born prematurely, at 25 weeks of her mother’s pregnancy, weighing 550 grams. This is one of the smallest children in Ukraine who were born with an extremely low weight. Audrey was in the intensive care unit on artificial ventilation for 37 days. Then she underwent a long rehabilitation.

At the age of 2, the mother noticed that the child made few sounds, and then the reaction to sounds disappeared completely. So she immediately turned to the doctors. Then the doctors discovered hearing loss.

“My daughter was fitted with a hearing aid, which she wore for a year. But she heard little from them. Although she began to speak in syllables a little. I was looking for doctors who could help the child. My friend from Transcarpathia told about the experience of her child’s treatment at the Lviv Regional Children’s Hospital “Okhmatdyt”, she was very satisfied. And that’s how I learned about the possibility of cochlear implantation. I was so anxious before the surgery. It lasted 3 hours. But everything went well. On the second day after the intervention, Audrey was already running around the ward and playing,” said the girl’s mother, Ivetta.

The girl has already connected the implant and now 4-year-old Audrey is learning the surrounding world of sounds in a new way.

We will remind you that world-famous otologist from Poland and Belgium, together with the head of the Clinic of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery of Lviv “Okhmatdyt” gave hearing to three children. The Hearing Implants Program has started working in the hospital.
