“Each supercluster and cluster medical institution of Lviv region must equip rehabilitation departments by the end of the year”, – Ivan Sobko

Rehabilitation services are paid for within the packages of the National Health Service of Ukraine, and each patient can receive the appropriate inpatient service from 2 to 8 cycles of rehabilitation.

This was announced today during a briefing on the topic: “Reform of the rehabilitation system and available rehabilitation services in the Lviv region.”

“We live in a time of war and must understand that not only our military personnel are wounded on the battlefield, but also the civilian population as a result of enemy missile strikes throughout the territory of Ukraine. In such conditions, it is important not only to provide timely medical assistance, but also further rehabilitation. Therefore, by the end of the year, each supracluster and cluster medical institution of the Lviv region must equip a rehabilitation department, in each of which additional two dozen places will be created for such patients. Heads of communities understand the urgency of this issue and the time frame within which these departments will be created, where professional rehabilitation services will be provided for all those who suffered as a result of the Russian invasion”, – noted Ivan Sobko, profile deputy head of Lviv OVA.

Nataliya Litvinska, head of the health care department of the Lviv OVA, informed that the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has set the goal of creating 5 national-level rehabilitation centers.

“Rehabilitation departments should also be created in 228 health care institutions, which will have more than 7,000 beds. The capacity of such departments should be 126,000 patients per year. On the territory of our region, 13 institutions are contracted for the inpatient rehabilitation package, 33 institutions for the outpatient rehabilitation package, and 12 institutions where rehabilitation services will be provided to children under 3 years of age,” Nataliya Litvinska specified.

She noted that the Department of Health has approved rehabilitation routes and clearly defined tasks for all heads of health care institutions, and therefore what their next actions should be.

“Among the 12 institutions of the capable network, rehabilitation departments are functioning in 5 of them. By the end of the year, we set ourselves the goal that such departments will be operational in every cluster and supercluster hospital. Every manager of a health care facility in Lviv region understands how rehabilitation departments should look and how well they should be filled with qualified personnel and appropriate material and technical support. Every rehabilitation department should have an assistive technology office, and institutions where prosthetics are performed should have offices for prosthetists,” Nataliya Litvinska said.

She also told about the modern vision of rehabilitation services for people who need it.

“Today, we look at such a concept as rehabilitation not only from the point of view of treating an illness or injury, because this is only one aspect of rehabilitation. No less important is the further full functioning of the person and his ability to interact with the environment. “Rehabilitation involves the difficult daily work of the patient and the multidisciplinary team with the aim of further restoration of functions,” Nataliya Litvinska summarized.

She added that rehabilitation services are paid for within the packages of the National Health Service of Ukraine and each patient can receive the appropriate inpatient service from 2 to 8 cycles of rehabilitation.
