Well-known American cardiac surgeon William Novik and his team of Novic Cardiac Allience came to the First Medical Association of Lviv again. During the week, William operated on five children with our heart surgeons.
During their visit, a team of American medics joined the complex operations on the aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves. The youngest patient was only 3 days old, the oldest – 18 years old.
The most difficult surgery was Ross’s operation on 4-year-old Nastuna, whose condition was already critical. To save her life, cardiac surgeons replaced the girl’s affected aortic valve with her own pulmonary artery valve.
William Novik’s team also handed over consumables and medical equipment weighing about 2.5 tons to TMO, which our specialists have already started working with.
This is the fourth mission of Novic Cardiac Alliance to Lviv for the development of pediatric cardiac surgery in Western Ukraine. During the cooperation, more than half a hundred children with complex heart defects were operated on and the same number were consulted.
This year, the Novic Cardiac Allience team plans to visit Lviv at least twice more.
