The Lviv region developed recommendations for preserving vision during education

During the first stage of project implementation, ophthalmologists examined 553 students for vision problems.

We will remind you that in September, the project “Student’s Vision” was launched in Lviv Oblast, the goal of which is to prevent visual impairment among schoolchildren. As part of the project, over the course of a month, ophthalmologists of the Okhmatdyt LOCDL examined 553 students of five schools in the region, and hygienists of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health measured the level of natural lighting in classrooms, measured the height of schoolchildren, and seated them in classes according to with standards and rules, taught exercises that prevent vision loss.

As a result, vision problems were detected in 172 students (every third person examined), and violations of the level of natural lighting were detected in only three classrooms out of 132.

These are intermediate conclusions, on the basis of which the doctors prepared a health letter for each child with recommendations on the prevention of visual impairment. Control examinations in schools will be conducted in December and at the end of the academic year.

Now, specialists participating in the project have developed relevant information brochures (in the photo gallery below), which contain:

a set of exercises to relieve visual fatigue performed at home;
a set of gymnastics exercises for the eyes, which are carried out during school classes;
nutritional recommendations to improve vision;
recommendations for using electronic devices safely for the eyes.

The other day, the Deputy Director General of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Olha Brezytka, and the center’s hygienist, Tetiana Harnyk, discussed the results of the first stage of the project and the developed recommendations with teachers of schools participating in the project and parents of students.

We would like to add that the project was jointly initiated by the health care department of LOVA, the department of education and science of LOVA and the state institution “Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”. The participants of the project became five schools of the region, in which students are examined for the presence of vision problems and learning conditions:
