Free cochlear implantation programme for children with hearing impairment launched in Lviv Oblast

The Clinic of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology at the Children’s Medicine Centre, OKHMATDYT Hospital, has been included in the state cochlear implantation programme.

Within the framework of the state programme of cochlear implantation, Lviv is starting to enrol children with profound bilateral hearing impairment. The surgeries will be performed at the Centre for Paediatric Medicine at OKHMATDYT Hospital. Children under the age of 3 will be able to receive modern medical care free of charge. This initiative is designed to give young patients the opportunity to develop their hearing and speech.

The doctors of the Department of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology at OKHMATDYT Hospital already have successful experience in performing such operations and continue to cooperate with leading European otosurgeons. Currently, 10 implants have been prepared for patients and are waiting for children in need. The surgeries and subsequent rehabilitation will be carried out according to the most advanced international standards in Lviv.

“We are pleased to announce that our clinic has been included in the state cochlear implantation programme. This is a unique opportunity for children with profound sensorineural hearing impairment to receive the highest level of care. The surgery, implant fitting and rehabilitation will be free of charge for our patients,” the Children’s Medicine Centre at OKHMATDYT Hospital said.

The programme is aimed at children under 3 years of age, as this age is critical for the development of hearing and speech. Parents who notice hearing problems in their children can seek advice and make an appointment for an examination at OHMATDYT.
