The number of coronavirus diseases is increasing in Lviv Oblast

The examples of foreign countries, where the incidence is increasing sharply, are alarming, so it is quite likely that a rapid increase may also occur in our country

Over the past week, the number of cases of infection with the Covid-19 coronavirus infection has increased in the Lviv region and throughout Ukraine. The same trend is observed in European countries. Natalia Timko-Ivanchenko, head of the Lviv Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, reported this in a comment on Tvoemisto.tv.

According to the Ministry of Health, 1,018 cases of coronavirus disease were recorded last week, and 943 cases the week before.

“We see an increase of 12% and this is the same trend as in European countries. Today, a sharp jump is recorded in Europe compared to June-May. We are potentially preparing for a possible new wave of growth in Covid-19 cases. Including, we are preparing the health care system for this,” says Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

According to him, there is a possibility of an increase in Covid-19 cases in the autumn-winter period. On the other hand, the head of the Lviv Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Nataliya Timko-Ivanchenko, says that the examples of foreign countries, in particular Italy, where a sharp increase in the incidence of the coronavirus was found, are alarming, so it is quite likely that the rapid growth may occur even faster.

“In Lviv region, we are registering a sharp increase in the number of cases of coronavirus disease. For example, in the week from June 27 to June 3, 25 positive cases were registered against 12 in the previous similar period,” she says.

During the entire period of Covid-19, 307,594 cases were confirmed in Lviv region, of which 6,702 were fatal. 300,770 people recovered.

Viktor Lyashko also noted that in Ukraine there are drugs for the treatment of patients, personal protective equipment, more than 1.2 million rapid tests, tests for PCR diagnostics, etc. This year, issues may arise with oxygen supplies, as part of the producers in Ukraine are located where active hostilities are ongoing. Therefore, in order not to get sick, Ukrainians should not neglect their health and, if possible, check their vaccination status: if they missed the second vaccination or booster, then go and get it.

According to WHO Director General Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, the incidence of coronavirus has increased by 30% in the last two weeks. The pace, according to him, is related to the modification of the omicron strain – the spread of subspecies of the omicron strain and the appearance of new variations of this strain. In particular, in Europe and America, the majority of detected cases of infection fall on the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants. Meanwhile, another subvariant of the Omicron strain was discovered in India – VA.2.75. He is currently being monitored.

We would like to remind you that the validity of vaccination certificates against Covid-19 will be displayed in “Action” for one and a half years from the date of vaccination. The deadline was extended to simplify the stay of Ukrainians abroad during the war.
