The next replacement of prostheses for 11-year-old Yana from Kramatorsk is planned to be done in Lviv. Video

The UNBROKEN rehabilitation ecosystem is being created in Lviv so that thousands of Ukrainians affected by the war are not forced to go abroad for rehabilitation and prosthetics. Among them is 11-year-old Yana from Kramatorsk, who dreams of getting her next prosthesis already in Ukraine.

After two months of rehabilitation and training at the First Medical Association of Lviv, Natalya and her daughter Yana Stepanenka are now undergoing the first stage of prosthetics in California. Today, they are learning to take their first steps and doctors are constantly working with them. Here Yana is swimming again, and Natalya is cooking Ukrainian borscht. The family dreams of returning to Ukraine as soon as possible.

Doctors emphasize that the girl will need to change prostheses every year, as the child’s body grows and changes. That is why the national rehabilitation center “Unbroken” (UNBROKEN) is being created in Lviv, which will become the first center in Ukraine where 50 thousand Ukrainians will be able to receive physical, psychological and social rehabilitation every year.

“In order not to fly to the USA every time, Janus – you especially, I think that we will do your next replacement of prostheses in Lviv,” says Zoryana Ivanyuk, medical director of St. Mykola’s Children’s Hospital during an online conversation with the Stepanenko family.

We will remind you that Natalya and her 11-year-old twins Yana and Yaroslav came under rocket fire at the Kramatorsk railway station. The woman lost one limb, her daughter lost both. The son, who was the only survivor, has since become their support and support. For some time, the family was under the care of the city children’s hospital of Lviv, and then they went to the United States for prosthetics and rehabilitation.

The National Rehabilitation Center “UNBROKEN” will be the first center in Ukraine where 50,000 Ukrainians will be able to receive physical, psychological and social rehabilitation every year. The patient will not only receive a prosthesis here, but will also successfully return to a full life.

The first financial donors have already joined the project: ATB, Symfony Solutions, Space Art, PZU Ukraine Group and the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine. On the day of the project’s presentation, patrons collected more than 2 million euros. In July, a town for pregnant displaced women “Unbreakable Mothers” was opened as part of the ecosystem. Mothers with children who fled the war to Lviv already live here.
