More than 270 liters of milk for babies were collected from the breast milk bank of the regional perinatal center

The bank was opened in December of last year with the support of Lviv OVA.

The other day, Ioanna Kokot, representative of the Polish Breast Milk Bank Foundation (Fundacja Bank Mleka Kobiecego), coordinator of the project “Support and popularization of exclusive breastfeeding, as well as relevant practical actions related to proper nutrition of babies and of young children of Ukrainian and Polish mothers in crisis conditions in Poland”, which supports the activities of the BGM perinatal center since its opening in December 2022.

In particular, during the visit of Ioanna Kokot, the general director of the perinatal center Maria Malachynska said, 24 donors cooperate with the bank, and since the beginning of its activity, it has been possible to collect 270 liters of breast milk. The largest amount of milk was received by children who were in the departments of anesthesiology and intensive care of newborns and post-intensive care of newborns and discharge of premature babies.

The medical facility also thanked Ioanni Kokot for her attention and help in providing pregnant women and mothers of the perinatal center with informational booklets that tell about the activities of breast milk banks, the processes of expressing and storing breast milk.

We will remind you that the breast milk bank on the basis of the Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Center was opened with the support of the Lviv OVA. More than 9.8 million UAH were allocated from the regional budget and almost 3.6 million UAH from the budget of the perinatal center itself (funds of the National Health Service) for its creation and the purchase of all necessary equipment.

Another breast bank in the Lviv Region operates in the Neonatal Center of the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital. It was opened in August last year.
