The Lviv Oblast Clinical Perinatal Center has the ability to provide highly specialized ophthalmologic medical care to children with retinopathy of prematurity.
Many preterm babies have ophthalmoscopic differences from full-term babies. If eye pathologies, primarily retinopathy of prematurity, are not treated in time, it can lead to severe defects or even complete vision loss.
“Retinopathy of prematurity usually does not cause symptoms in the early stages. In order not to miss the pathology, all preterm infants in our perinatal center undergo a screening ophthalmological examination, and if retinopathy of prematurity is detected, treatment and further dynamic monitoring are performed.
We successfully apply laser techniques, which are currently the “golden” standard for the treatment of this disease. This method is painless for the child, and its effectiveness is 90%,” said Maria Malachynska, director of the Center.
With the team of doctors at the perinatal center, “hurry-ups” get a chance to see the world in all its colors.
