Successful Care of a Premature Baby Boy at Lviv Perinatal Center

Lviv Doctors Saved a Premature Baby Boy

At the Lviv Perinatal Center, a baby boy who was born extremely premature at 27 weeks of pregnancy, weighing only 950 grams, was cared for. His condition was critical. Doctors immediately began the struggle for his life.

“The child was on artificial lung ventilation from the first minutes because he could not breathe on his own due to the immaturity of his respiratory system. The baby spent over a month in the neonatal intensive care department with neonatal surgery, where doctors monitored every breath, observed his development, and fought with complications characteristic of prematurely born children,” the perinatal center reported.

Stabilization of Condition and Further Care

According to the doctors, the baby’s condition stabilized, and on the 35th day of life, he was transferred to the post-intensive care unit for newborns and premature babies. Here the baby learned to breathe without the help of respiratory equipment, to digest mother’s milk, and began to gain weight. The boy was consulted by related specialists: pediatric neurologist, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and surgeon.

“From the first days of life, the baby received donor milk from the Breast Milk Bank. And when lactologists helped the mother establish lactation, she herself became a donor of this valuable food product, which is also a real medicine for premature babies.”

Treatment and care yielded good results: step by step, the baby’s body became stronger, and on the 77th day of life, weighing 2650 grams, Dmytryk was discharged home.

“We now await his visits to the department of medical rehabilitation for prematurely born and small children,” the doctors noted.
