In Lviv, doctors removed a giant brain tumor from a 53-year-old man who was preparing to go to the front

As reported in St. Luke’s Hospital, in just three weeks the brain tumor grew to gigantic dimensions – 8 cm, and forced Oleg from Lviv, who was preparing to defend his native country, to defend himself.

Doctors managed to remove a rare tumor without damaging the brain.

The 53-year-old man was on military training when he began to feel pain in his spine. At first I thought I pulled my back. He also occasionally felt as if he was losing control of his right arm and leg. And when he could no longer shift the gearbox – and he is a driver by profession, he became worried and turned to the Hospital of St. Luke. The cause was a tumor, the doctors found it right away.

“Everything started suddenly – at the end of May. No one in my family had cancer, and I didn’t have the usual symptoms like headaches or dizziness. At first my spine hurt, then my hand started to weaken, I started to lose concentration behind the wheel and confused the pedals. After a CT scan, doctors immediately discovered a tumor. The operation was difficult and long, but everything went well. Now I feel good,” shared Oleg Baik.

The consequences of this oncology would be difficult to predict, because the tumor grew and caused displacement of the middle structures of the brain. So the patient could die.

“The tumor was deep in the structures of the brain, but we managed to perform the operation microsurgically without damaging the brain substance. This is a rare case, because the tumor was located deep in the parietal-occipital region near the important venous collectors of the brain. We managed to remove this tumor almost completely,” said Zoryan Saldan, a neurosurgeon at St. Luke’s Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv.

Now the man is recovering from the operation and is adjusting to a course of chemotherapy in the oncology clinic. Unfortunately, the tumor turned out to be malignant. But the man believes – everything will be fine with him.
