In Lviv, doctors at St. Anna’s Hospital supported a military family in achieving their long-awaited dream of parenthood. Nataliya and Stas Sikorsky met five years ago. Initially, she ignored his romantic advances — until she saw him in military uniform, and their relationship took off.
Their path was marked by hardship — Stas suffered a severe injury on the frontline, resulting in the amputation of his leg. Despite this, he proposed to Nataliya in a hospital ward, moments after they were forced to return from a planned trip due to sudden bleeding from his wound. Determined to stick to his plans, he proposed among fellow patients.
The couple dreamed of having a child, but Nataliya faced infertility risks due to a medical condition. They were helped by Professor Oleh Matviyenko from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Lviv Medical University, working at the St. Anna’s maternity hospital. He assisted with the conception and referred Nataliya to obstetrician-gynecologist Romana Basystyuk, who later also delivered the baby.
The childbirth was natural and performed under epidural anesthesia. It was a partner birth, with Stas by Nataliya’s side. Their son, Maksym Sikorsky, was born weighing 3400 grams and measuring 52 cm. His father cut the umbilical cord.
