A complex reconstructive operation was performed at the NEZLAMNI National Rehabilitation Center. So the warrior will again, as before, be able to fix cars for his brothers.
Ihor Deylyk is a builder from Vinnytsia. He is 29. He joined the army as a volunteer at the beginning of the full-scale war. Since then, he repaired cars and equipment for the combat training of our soldiers.
“I always liked to repair cars. I learned everything from my dad. He is a car mechanic,” says Igor. But in the spring, Igor began to feel pain in the thumb of his right hand. It became difficult to carry out the tasks assigned to him. That’s why he turned to doctors. They discovered a tumor: a 2 cm tumor had already destroyed the bone of the nail phalanx. One of the treatment options is surgical removal of the finger. But to lose even a part of it would mean the loss of many functions of the hand. He would not be able to carry out his work so skillfully in the future.
For medical help, the man turned to the specialists of the NEZLAMNI center. And after the examination, surgeons and orthopedic traumatologists decide: the finger can still be saved. This will require a complex multi-stage reconstructive operation.
First, doctors removed the tumor and the structures of the phalanx affected by it. Then they separated and removed part of the healthy bone from the wall. From it, a new base of the operated finger was formed and it was fixed with needles.
Six weeks have passed. Doctors have already removed the metal retainer and examined the finger. We are satisfied with the result. The bone took root, and the function of the finger and hand was completely preserved.
Histological examination of the removed tumor showed that the tumor was benign. Therefore, after completing the rehabilitation, Ihor will return to his training unit. “I will do what I can for our boys. So that everyone is ready to meet the enemy,” he says.
