Successful Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy at Ohmatdyt

The First Successful Case of Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy in Lviv

A team of ophthalmologists and otolaryngologists at our Center performed the first endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy — an advanced method for treating tear drainage disorders on an 8-year-old boy with dacryocystitis.

A New Step in Treating Dacryocystitis in Children

This is a new and very important step in treating this pathology in children. For a long time, the problem of chronic dacryocystitis was treated mainly conservatively and with traditional probing of the lacrimal duct, while complicated cases remained unresolved. But today, we have an important victory!

For the first time in the Children’s Medicine Center, Ohmatdyt Hospital, a joint operation by specialists for the treatment of this chronic condition was successfully completed. Thanks to the coordinated work of our pediatric ophthalmologist, Head of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Center Natalia Hudima, and pediatric otolaryngologist Mark Letsyk, a child suffering from constant inflammation of the tear sac received effective treatment.

Benefits of Minimally Invasive Dacryocystorhinostomy

Specialists performed a minimally invasive dacryocystorhinostomy — an advanced method for treating impaired tear drainage. This surgical method allows the restoration of the normal function of the nasolacrimal duct and re-establishes communication between the nasal cavity and the tear sac.

This success gives hope for the future for our young patients and opens new possibilities for treating complicated cases. If your child has similar problems – contact our specialists! We are always ready to help!
