In Lviv, more children are now suffering from covid than before
As of today, 21 August, there are 16 adults and 11 children with coronavirus in Lviv city hospitals for inpatient treatment. Over the past day, 8 patients were hospitalised and 7 were discharged. Another 738 patients are being treated on an outpatient basis. It is important that more children are sick now than before.
The condition of those hospitalised is mild to moderate. However, one child is in a serious condition in intensive care – a baby with a congenital defect. The doctors provide all the necessary therapy. Those who are treated on an outpatient basis are also under the supervision of family doctors.
It is important to note that more children are sick now than in previous weeks. While 23 children were hospitalised from 12 to 18 August, 11 children have been hospitalised since 19 August to date.
Doctors remind that the main symptoms of COVID-19 are often general weakness and drowsiness, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat, and fever for more than three days. At the same time, the loss of sense of smell or taste is becoming less common. Older patients are most severely affected, especially those with concomitant chronic illnesses such as diabetes mellitus and respiratory diseases, including asthma.
Therapists’ recommendations on how to protect yourself from infection:
1. If it has been a year or more since your last COVID-19 vaccination, get revaccinated.
2. Maintain good hygiene: wash your hands and use antiseptics.
3. 3. Avoid crowds.
Those who do fall ill are urged to isolate themselves, inform their family doctor and keep in touch with him or her, and follow all his or her recommendations. And in case of deterioration in health: chest heaviness, shortness of breath, high fever that does not break, you should immediately seek emergency medical care.
