A one-year-old boy’s hearing was restored in the Okhmatdyt regional hospital

The child has not heard since birth. At the Lviv Okhmatdyt Regional Clinical Hospital, doctors restored the hearing of a one-year-old boy, Ostap, who had been deaf since birth.

As reported in the medical facility, little Ostap is from twins. He was born prematurely at 32 weeks of his mother’s pregnancy, weighing 950 grams. The second child lived only 5 days, and Ostap went through a long and difficult path in intensive care, choosing life. At the second stage of discharge, during the neonatal screening, the baby was found to be deaf. The boy wore hearing aids for 8 months. However, it did not give the desired result.

“He didn’t hear speech, sounds, he only reacted a little, but still we understood that you can’t start speech with this, but you want your child to be fully developed. Such an operation is a very good chance for us. Even at home, in Lviv. I am very grateful to “Okhmatdyt”, in particular, Fedor Bogdanovich Yurochko, Polish and Belgian doctors. From the bottom of my heart,” said the child’s mother Yuliya Datskiv.

One month after the installation of the cochlear implant, the boy was connected to an external device. He heard the first sounds in his life. And then a long rehabilitation awaits the baby.

We will remind you that world-famous otolaryngologists from Poland and Belgium, together with the head of the Clinic of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery of Lviv “Okhmatdyt” Fyodor Yurochko, gave hearing to three children as part of the Hearing Implants Program.

The photos were taken during the connection of the implant, immediately after the operation and before the intervention. The author of the photos is Viktor Moskalyuk.
