In the shelter of the Lviv Regional Perinatal Center, a miniature perinatal center is now operating

On an area of more than 700 square meters, there is a delivery room, an operating room, intensive care wards, post-intensive care – everything necessary to bring a new life into the world and take care of it.

Before the full-scale war, this basement was used exclusively for household needs. Even the height of the ceiling – 1.5 meters – was no longer allowed.

To reconstruct the shelter, it was deepened by more than a meter. Almost 125 truckloads of earth were removed during the works. They replaced the sewage system, the fire system, the ventilation system, and installed the Internet. And most importantly, all of this meets the requirements of safety, accessibility and state building regulations.

The opening of this maternity ward in miniature is the result of a very powerful synergy. More than 2 million hryvnias for its creation were donated from the auction held by We and the World, the Kozytskyi Charitable Foundation. Almost 2 million more – charitable assistance from Amdos Management and Vodafone Ukraine. In 2022, 2 million and about 600 thousand hryvnias were allocated to this shelter from the regional budget, in 2023 – almost 4 million. About 6 million more are funds for perinatal care itself.

“On the one hand, it is unfortunate to think that we live in a time when it is safest to be born in a shelter. On the other hand, I am proud of our strength, flexibility to the circumstances and unity. These are the resources that will help us persevere and win.

Over the past two years, the Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Center has been the first in Ukraine in terms of the number of medical care provided during childbirth. I thank the team headed by Maria Malachynska for their work and I wish to increase the success many times.

We thank our soldiers for the fact that we can live and work on our native land.

May God grant that, as soon as possible, the cry of newborn babies will be the only cry that will be heard in our country,” noted the head of LOVA, Maksym Kozytskyi.
