Victims of the Second World War were honored in Lviv

Today, May 8, Lviv commemorated all those who died in the Second World War. Representatives of the city and regional authorities, military, police and rescuers, clergy and the public laid flowers and lit candles to the Memorial Cross on the site of the former concentration camp “Stalag-328”. After that, they prayed an ecumenical memorial service for all the dead.

The “Tree of Remembrance” action was also held: the military planted a viburnum near the Memorial Cross as a symbol of memory for all those who died in the Second World War. Because, as the organizers noted, only where the dead are remembered will there be those who will protect the living.

As a reminder, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation is celebrated annually in Ukraine on May 8. And today the President of Ukraine submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law proposing to establish May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939–1945.
