The police informed about the suspicion of intentional damage to the property of the resident of Sambor, who blew up the “Mercedes”
According to law enforcement officers, the crime was committed for personal reasons. The suspect faces up to ten years of imprisonment for the crime.
On October 30, around eight o’clock in the morning, the operative line 102 received a message from a 45-year-old resident of the city of Sambir that his Mercedes car, which he left near one of the houses on Ivasyuka Street in the district center, was damaged by an explosion at night.
Operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigation, employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis, forensic experts, a canine handler with a service dog and explosives specialists of the Lviv Oblast police, operatives of the criminal police and investigators of the Sambir district police department were involved in solving the crime. As the law enforcement officers later established, the car was damaged due to the detonation of a grenade, probably F-1.
Through the conducted measures, in particular after studying the recordings of video surveillance cameras located within the framework of the “Safe Lviv Region” program, the law enforcement officers established that a 45-year-old resident of Samor was involved in the car bombing. Around three o’clock in the morning, he approached the “Mercedes”, broke the window of the right front door with a stone, threw a grenade into the interior and fled the scene after the explosion. The crime was committed for personal reasons.
Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Sambir district prosecutor’s office, informed the intruder of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in part 2 of article 194 (Deliberate destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of three to ten years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the suspect. Law enforcement officers are also establishing the origin of the grenade.
