A resident of Stryi was sentenced to three years in prison for evading military conscription during mobilization.
Prosecutors from the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office proved the guilt of the 42-year-old local resident in court. He evaded conscription for military service during mobilization, which is a violation of Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.
In 2024, the military medical commission deemed him fit for service. He received a draft notice to arrive on a specified date for deployment to a military unit. However, the man did not appear at the territorial recruitment and social support center. He explained his absence by citing religious beliefs.
**However, the draft was not for regular military service,** which can be substituted with alternative service, but for military service during mobilization. Thus, he violated the current legislation. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv region. The court’s verdict becomes legally binding after the expiration of the appeal period.
