In Lviv region, police detained an offender suspected of stealing a purse from a government employee in a matter of minutes

Having entered the office, the offender tried to collect money from employees and visitors under a false pretext, allegedly for the treatment of his father, and as a result, stole the employee’s wallet from one of the offices and fled the scene.

On January 23, at about 15:30, an employee of a state institution in the city of Kamianka-Buzka reported to the 102 operational line that a wallet with bank cards and money had been stolen from her office.

The investigative team and other officers of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 immediately arrived at the address. Near the scene, on the street, officers of the patrol police response sector noticed a suspicious man. He could not present any documents for verification and was visibly nervous when talking to law enforcement officers. Later, during a cursory inspection, the police found a wallet on him, which had been reported stolen by the applicant.

The offender was identified as a 28-year-old resident of Boryslav, Drohobych district, who had previously been prosecuted and recently released from prison. In the state institution, he tried to collect money from employees and visitors under false pretenses – allegedly for the treatment of his father, but when he saw a wallet in one of the offices, he seized it and fled.

The offender was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the material evidence was seized from him.

The issue of serving the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense stipulated by Part 4 Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and choosing a form of detention is being settled. The maximum penalty provided for by the sanction of the article is up to eight years of imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Law enforcement officers once again remind that under martial law, theft, robbery, extortion, as well as misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office, are punishable by maximum penalties.
