As determined by the operatives of the Migration Police Department together with the employees of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Oblast Police, the perpetrator, a 43-year-old resident of Stryi district, did not pay the workers for their work, but only provided them with a place to live with inadequate conditions and occasionally with products.

A 47-year-old man temporarily living in the Lviv region turned to the 102 hotline for help. According to the applicant, he and his common-law wife are immigrants, and since September 2022 they have been living and working on one of the farms located in the Stryi district.

While recruiting for work, the owner of the farm promised to provide the applicant and his wife with adequate living conditions and to provide wages. However, in reality, the employer did not fulfill his promises and did not pay the workers for their work, but only provided them with a place to live with inadequate conditions and periodically provided them with food.

Investigators of the department of investigation of crimes in the sphere of economic and official activity of the investigative department of the police of the Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office, informed the owner of the farm about the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in part 2 of article 149 (Trafficking in people) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of five to twelve years with or without confiscation of property.
