It has been established that the suspects demanded and received a USD 30,000 bribe from the head of the company for a positive decision on the issue of approving the extension of a long-term lease of a 1.5-hectare land plot and not interfering with the company’s business activities. The offenders, the chairman of the Standing Committee on Land Relations and Architecture and a member of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, Finance and Budget of one of the local councils, were exposed by investigators of the Major Crimes Investigation Department (detectives) of the Lviv Police Investigation Department together with operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office in the Western Region.
On February 21, law enforcement officers detained the deputies in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after they received part of the illegal benefit in the amount of USD 15 thousand.
The detainees were served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspects. Lviv regional police communication department
