Police detain offender on suspicion of stealing Nissan car
The offender drove the vehicle stolen in Lviv to a village in Lviv district, where law enforcement officers found him. The detainee faces imprisonment for up to eight years with confiscation of property.
On 8 July, an 88-year-old resident of Lviv reported to the 102 operational line that his Nissan X-Trail had been stolen. Criminal police operatives, investigators and employees of other services of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, as well as criminal investigation operatives and employees of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Police were involved in solving the crime.
Through the measures taken, having studied the video surveillance footage of the “Safe Lviv Region” system, the police tracked the route of the stolen car, interviewed witnesses and established the location of the Nissan X-Trail in one of the villages of Lviv district.
Law enforcement officers also established the location of the offender, a 24-year-old resident of Lviv, and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The issue of serving to the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence stipulated by Part 2 Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal seizure of a vehicle) is being settled under the procedural supervision of the Halychyna District Prosecutor’s Office. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to eight years with or without confiscation of property.
The found car was delivered to the impound lot.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.
