Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the pre-trial investigation was completed and an indictment was sent to court against the deputy chairman of the city council of a city in Lviv region. He is accused of abuse of office, which caused grave consequences (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in December 2022, the accused entered into a contract with the company for the supply of backup power supplies and wireless Internet systems to provide heating points for the population.
At the same time, the man knew for certain that the company offered a price for generators and 3G modems that was significantly higher than the market price.
In addition, on his instructions, the city budget made a full payment to the business entity. However, it was not taken into account that the delivered goods were exempt from taxation, and therefore, the amount of the recalculation should not have included value added tax.
As a result of such actions, the local community suffered losses totaling more than UAH 900 thousand.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region with the operational support of the SBU Office in Lviv region.
Note: In accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
