On January 2, at 05:43, the Rescue Service “101” received a report about a fire in the city of Lviv on the street Pid Golosko, 17. The fire broke out in an apartment on the fourth floor of a nine-story residential building. Regular branches of the city of Lviv, as well as the operational coordination center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region, went to the scene of the call.
At the time of the arrival of fire departments, flames were already shooting out of the window of the apartment, and the stairwell was densely filled with toxic combustion products. Without wasting time, the rescuers put on special devices for the protection of respiratory and vision organs and began to carry out work to rescue the residents of the building, who could not get out of the smoky apartments on their own, and simultaneously started work on eliminating the fire.
On the landing on the 4th floor, near the burning apartment, firefighters found the owner, born in 1957, who was conscious, but could no longer move on his own. So, the firefighters took the man out into the fresh air and handed him over to the medical workers. After medical examination, the victim was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital in a moderate condition. According to doctors, the man received first- and second-degree burns to his head, neck, and both hands.
At the same time, in order to guarantee the safety of the residents of the entrance, with the help of rescue devices, the firefighters took out 31 people, including 5 children, and a cat from the apartments from the 5th to the 9th floor. Also, 15 people were evacuated from the lower floors.
At 06:21 the fire was localized and at 06:36 it was extinguished by the 5 units of the gas and smoke protection service. The fire destroyed household items on an area of 17 square meters, a window, damaged walls and a ceiling on an area of 100 square meters.
35 personnel and 6 units of special equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. The circumstances and cause of the fire are being established.
