More than 20 athletes represented the Lviv region at the competition.
Yesterday, February 7, the Ukrainian Indoor Athletics Cup ended in Kyiv. More than 20 athletes represented our region at the competition with the support of the Youth and Sports Department of Lviv Oblast.
24-year-old Ilona Zaskalko became the winner of the high jump competition with a result of 180 cm. 32-year-old Roman Rostykus became the winner of the 3000-meter race with a time of 8.20.81. 25-year-old Victoria Dutkevich was the first to overcome the distance of 2000 meters with obstacles. All three winners master athletics at the Lviv Regional School of Higher Sports Excellence.
23-year-old Anastasiya Matviyok, who trains at the specialized children’s and youth sports school “Veslyarik”, won silver in the 175 cm high jump. And in the long jump, 19-year-old Alina Listunova won a medal of the same category with a result of 5 meters 75 cm. The athlete trains at the Chervonohrad State University of Applied Sciences No. 1. 22-year-old Maksym Karaim, who trains at the Oleksiy Demjaniuk Children’s and Youth Sports School in Lviv, became the vice-champion in the 2000-meter steeplechase.
In jumping at a height of 170 cm, 16-year-old pupil of Lviv Regional College of Sports Alevtyna Dubil won bronze. And in the distance of 800 meters, 22-year-old Yuliya Grigorieva, an athlete of the Children’s and Youth Sports School named after Oleksiy Dem’yanyuk, won the third place.
“Today, we can steadily observe growth in the achievements of track and field athletes from the Lviv region. These results and the development of the athletics infrastructure of the region are interrelated processes. Only in recent years, the infrastructure for the development of athletics disciplines appeared in Stryi, Busk, Sambor, Mostysk, and the SKIF complex, which was completed in 2021, this year became not only the best training base in the west of Ukraine, but also the home arena for holding many national championships and all-Ukrainian track and field competitions,” Roman Khimyak, head of the youth and sports department of the Lviv OVA, said.
In total, representatives of 23 regions competed for medals at the Cup of Ukraine. As the coach-representative of the national team of Lviv Oblast Vitaly Tarnakin said, these competitions were the last rehearsal before the adult championship of Ukraine and the championship among youth, which are to be held next week in Kyiv.
