On 1 September Lviv will bid a final farewell to defender Oleh Tarkhov

On Tuesday, 1 September, a farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for serviceman Oleh Tarkhov, who was killed defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities are calling on Lviv residents and visitors to join the ceremony and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony is planned on Rynok Square. The warrior will be laid to rest at Holosko Cemetery, in section 34-V.

Oleh Tarkhov (28.11.1989 — 28.08.2026) was a Lviv native. He studied at the “Sykhivskyi” Lyceum of the Lviv City Council and later at Lyceum No. 17 of the Lviv City Council. He trained as an electrician at the State Educational Institution “Lviv Higher Vocational Polytechnic College”.

After completing his studies, Oleh worked as a volunteer at the Cherkasy City Organisation of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society. According to his family, he was kind, sincere and sociable, easily found common ground with people and had a good sense of humour. His family held a special place in his life.

The defender was passionate about cars, was interested in car repairs and dreamed of opening his own garage. He loved sport, particularly running, and took part in charity marathons in support of prisoners of war.

In 2024, Oleh Tarkhov took up arms to defend Ukraine from the Russian invasion. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the South Slobozhanskyi and North Slobozhanskyi sectors as part of the 15th Mobile Border Detachment “Steel Border” of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. For his service, he was awarded the medal “War Veteran”.

The fallen serviceman is survived by his mother, sister, wife and daughter.
