On 12 August Lviv will bid a final farewell to defender Oleksii Trush

On Wednesday, 12 August, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for serviceman Oleksii Trush, who gave his life defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities are calling on Lviv residents and visitors to join in honouring the memory of the soldier and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.

The funeral rite will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At around 11:30 a citywide farewell ceremony is planned on Rynok Square. The soldier will be laid to rest at Holoskivske Cemetery, in sector 34-V.

Oleksii Trush (17.08.1988 — 01.08.2026) was a Lviv native. He studied at Lyceum No. 45 of the Lviv City Council, after which he continued his education abroad. He later obtained a higher education degree at the higher education institution “Kyiv Institute of Business and Technology”.

After his studies he worked abroad as an English teacher. According to his relatives, Oleksii was a very kind, calm and sensitive person, distinguished by his erudition, sincerity and goodwill. He knew how to maintain warm relationships with people even in difficult circumstances, always showing respect, attentiveness and willingness to help. He was passionate about learning foreign languages and running, loved animals very much and treated them with special care.

In 2025 Oleksii joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders to resist the Russian invasion. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the North-Slobozhanskyi sector as part of the 103rd Separate Territorial Defence Brigade named after Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky of the Territorial Defence Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The fallen defender is survived by his mother, his brother with his family, and other relatives.
