On Saturday, 12 September, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for servicemen Vitalii Bekharskyi, Andrii Sidliar and Roman Myhal, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on Lviv residents and visitors to join the farewell and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The farewell to Andrii Sidliar will begin at 09:30 at the Church of All Saints of the Ukrainian People (32 S. Petliury St). The funeral service for the three soldiers will take place at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of Sts Peter and Paul, after which, at approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.
Vitalii Bekharskyi and Andrii Sidliar will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 (Pasichna St). Roman Myhal will be laid to rest at the cemetery in the village of Sokilnyky in Lviv region.
Vitalii Bekharskyi (13.06.1975 — 06.10.2025) was a Lviv native. He studied at the Sykhivskyi Lyceum of Lviv City Council and later at the separate structural unit Lviv Vocational College of Food Technologies and Business of the National University of Food Technologies. He subsequently obtained a higher education at the National University Lviv Polytechnic and completed the military department. He worked in the trade sector and ran his own business. According to his family, he was kind, sincere, responsible and caring, and was passionate about football and numismatics.
In 2024, Vitalii joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Donetsk sector as part of the 155th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is survived by his parents, two sons, his wife and other relatives.
Andrii Sidliar (31.07.1971 — 11.12.2025) was born in the village of Pobuzhany in Lviv region. He studied at Secondary School No. 72 in Lviv and trained as a cabinetmaker specialising in artistic furniture at the state educational institution Lviv Higher Vocational School of Design and Construction. He completed compulsory military service.
In civilian life he worked as a driver at the 30th State Fire and Rescue Unit (Sykhiv District Department of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region), later as deputy facilities manager at the private higher educational institution Lviv Medical Vocational College Monada, and subsequently as a general worker at the parish of the Church of All Saints of the Ukrainian People of the UGCC in Lviv. His family remember him as a creative, open, sincere and versatile person who loved nature, fishing, cycling and active leisure.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Andrii took up arms to defend Ukraine. He fought in the Donetsk sector as part of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelweiss of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For his service he was awarded the medal War Veteran. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son and other relatives.
Roman Myhal (16.09.1978 — 10.09.2026) was from the village of Sokilnyky in Lviv region. He studied at Secondary School No. 32 in Lviv and later at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy. His family describe him as a kind, caring, optimistic, responsible and sociable person who easily found common ground with others and had many friends.
Roman served in units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and later continued his military career at the Western Territorial Directorate of the Military Law Enforcement Service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since 2014 he had taken part in the defence of Ukraine in the Donetsk, Luhansk and Southern Slobozhanskyi sectors as part of the 3rd Special Department of the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
For his service, Roman Myhal was honoured with the awards For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation, the honorary distinction Cross — Always Faithful, the departmental distinction of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine — the medal Service Veteran, and the distinction For Service to the State. He is survived by his parents, sister, wife, two daughters and other relatives.
