On 14 September Lviv will bid farewell to defender Ruslan Petryshyn

On Monday, 14 September, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for serviceman Ruslan Petryshyn, who gave his life defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on Lviv residents and visitors to join in honouring the defender’s memory and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.

The funeral service will begin at 12:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At around 12:30 a citywide farewell ceremony is planned on Rynok Square. The warrior will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street.

Ruslan Petryshyn (08.05.1976 — 04.12.2025) was born in the village of Stanymyr in Lviv region. He first studied at the Stanymyr General Secondary Education Institution of Levels I–II of the Peremyshliany City Council of Lviv District, and later continued his education at the Lviv Vocational College of Construction, Architecture and Design. He obtained his higher education at the Stepan Gzhytskyi Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies (previously the Lviv National Agrarian University).

By profession he worked in the construction sector and ran his own business. His family remember Ruslan as a kind, cheerful, sociable, proactive and hard-working person, a loving husband and father, a caring son and brother, and a reliable friend. He was an active citizen, loved nature and animals, was passionate about fishing and gardening, and enjoyed cooking and looking after the household.

With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ruslan Petryshyn joined the ranks of the defenders as part of the 2nd Separate Halychyna Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. From 2025 he defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Dnipropetrovsk sector as part of the 67th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ruslan Petryshyn is survived by his parents, wife, daughters, son, sister, godson and other relatives.
