On Wednesday, 16 September, city farewell ceremonies will be held in Lviv for servicemen Dmytro Husak and Valentyn Yarmolovych, who were killed defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on Lviv residents and visitors to join the farewells and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The funeral service for Valentyn Yarmolovych will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At around 11:30 a citywide farewell ceremony is planned on Rynok Square. The serviceman will be laid to rest at Holosko Cemetery on Mykolaychuka Street.
The farewell to Dmytro Husak will begin at 11:00 at the Church of Saints Volodymyr and Olha in the town of Vynnyky (4 Zhupan Street). After the service, a farewell ceremony will take place at the local Alley of Heroes. The soldier will be buried in his native village of Vynnychky.
Valentyn Yarmolovych (01.09.1973 — 14.09.2026) was born in the town of Tulchyn in Vinnytsia region. He studied at Secondary Comprehensive School No. 33 in Lviv and later obtained a higher education at the Lviv Polytechnic National University. He completed compulsory military service.
After his service he worked as a driver at the private enterprise “Berta Plyus”, and later as a storekeeper at the subsidiary enterprise “Morozko” of the private joint-stock company “Lvivskyi Kholodokombinat”. His family remember him as a kind, sociable and sensitive person who never remained indifferent to other people’s problems, had a good sense of humour, and enjoyed spending time in nature, playing computer games and doing sports in the gym.
In 2024 Valentyn took up arms to defend Ukraine from the Russian invasion. He served on the Kursk axis with the 82nd Separate Air Assault Bukovyna Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and later on the Southern Slobozhanskyi axis with the 58th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For his service he was awarded the “War Veteran” medal. He is survived by his wife and family.
Dmytro Husak (03.06.1980 — 14.09.2026) was born in the village of Vynnychky in Lviv region. He studied at Vynnychky Gymnasium of the Davydiv Village Council of Lviv district, and then continued his education at a vocational school in Lviv.
By profession Dmytro was a footwear maker and ran his own business. His relatives say he was a kind, sincere and open person, who easily found common ground with others and had a distinctive sense of humour. He was interested in fishing and acting, and liked to spend his free time playing computer games.
In 2026 Dmytro joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served with the 23rd Engineer-Positioning Regiment of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After his death he left behind his wife, son, daughter and other relatives.
