On Thursday, 17 September, Lviv will bid farewell to servicemen Mykhailo Kadykalo and Ihor Svityi, who were killed defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities have appealed to Lviv residents and visitors to join the ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations at that time.
The funeral service for the soldiers will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. After the service, at approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. Mykhailo Kadykalo will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the field of honourable burials No. 87 (Pasichna Street), and Ihor Svityi at Holosko Cemetery, in field 34-V.
Mykhailo Kadykalo (24.04.1991 — 09.09.2026) was a native of Lviv. He studied at the Vovchyshovychi General Secondary Education Institution of Grades I–III of the Sudova Vyshnia City Council of Lviv Region. He later qualified as a plasterer, tiler and painter at the state vocational institution “Lviv Higher Vocational Polytechnic College”, and subsequently obtained the qualification of technician-technologist at the separate structural unit “Lviv Vocational College of Food Technologies and Business of the National University of Food Technologies”. He worked in the construction sector for private enterprises.
According to his family, Mykhailo was distinguished by his courage, kindness, sense of justice, generosity and sociability. He loved communicating with people, easily found common ground with others, and enjoyed football, travelling, holidays in the mountains and fishing.
In 2023, Mykhailo took up arms to defend Ukraine from Russia’s full-scale invasion. He served in the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade named after Koshovyi Otaman Ivan Sirko of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he fought for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Donetsk, Southern Slobozhanskyi, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia sectors. For his service he was awarded a departmental decoration of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine – the Iron Cross medal.
Mykhailo Kadykalo is survived by his wife, son, parents, two brothers and extended family.
Ihor Svityi (02.08.1977 — 15.09.2026) was also born in Lviv. He studied at Secondary School No. 72 in Lviv and then at the Lviv Institute of Economics and Tourism. He completed his compulsory military service, after which he worked at the private joint-stock company “Lvivoblenergo”.
His relatives remember Ihor as an exceptionally kind, bright, positive and cheerful person. He was marked by his optimism and sociability, had many friends and valued the time spent with his loved ones. He was passionate about football and boxing and loved cooking.
In 2024, Ihor Svityi joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 184th Training Centre of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
After the death of Ihor Svityi, he is mourned by his wife, his sister and her family, nephews, goddaughter, mother-in-law and a large extended family.
