
On Tuesday, 18 August, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for serviceman Serhii Yunko, who gave his life defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on Lviv residents and visitors to join in honouring the defender’s memory and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The warrior will be laid to rest at the cemetery in the village of Zubra in Lviv district.
Serhii Yunko (22.08.1992 — 10.08.2026) was a native of Lviv. He studied at Secondary Comprehensive School No. 84 named after Blessed Josaphata Hordashevska, and received his vocational education at the Lviv Vocational College of Hotel, Tourism and Restaurant Service.
After completing his studies, he worked at the limited liability company ‘Romb’. His family remember Serhii as a cheerful, positive, sociable and responsible person, and a caring and loving father. He enjoyed spending time in nature, was interested in computer technology and had a particular fondness for animals.
In 2024, Serhii took up arms to defend the Motherland from the Russian invasion. He served in the Dnipropetrovsk sector as part of the 160th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state.
Serhii Yunko is survived by his parents, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother and other relatives.
