On Thursday, 24 September, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for the fallen defenders of Ukraine Vadym Salii and Nazarii Murunov, who were killed defending the country from the Russian occupiers. The City Council calls on residents and visitors to join the farewell and to refrain from entertainment during this time.
The farewell to Nazarii Murunov will begin at 09:30 at the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UGCC at 83 Pasichna Street. The funeral service for both soldiers will take place at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, after which, at approximately 11:30, the citywide farewell ceremony will begin on Rynok Square.
Nazarii Murunov will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honour No. 87 on Pasichna Street. Vadym Salii will be laid to rest at Holosko Cemetery, in Field 34-V.
Vadym Salii (04.12.1973 — 19.09.2026) was born in the village of Smotrych in Khmelnytskyi region. He studied at Kamianets-Podilskyi Gymnasium No. 8, and later qualified as a third-class motor mechanic at the vocational education institution “Podilskyi Vocational College”. He completed compulsory military service and worked as a long-distance lorry driver at the limited liability company “Iljin Transport”.
Relatives remember Vadym as a kind, sensitive, cheerful and sociable person with a good sense of humour. He loved speed and the open road, was passionate about motor racing and Formula 1, followed events in the country closely and was a sincere patriot.
Vadym Salii was a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. With the start of the full-scale invasion, he once again took up arms to defend Ukraine. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Donetsk sector as part of the 110th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after General-Cornet Marko Bezruchko of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the distinction “For participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation” and the medal “ATO Participant”.
Vadym Salii is survived by his mother, wife, four sons, daughter and other relatives.
Nazarii Murunov (21.09.1992 — 20.09.2026) was from the village of Slovita in Lviv region. He studied at Secondary Comprehensive School No. 42 in Lviv and obtained higher education at the Stepan Gzhytskyi Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies, specialising in Management. He worked as a sushi chef in private enterprises.
According to his relatives, Nazarii was a bright, compassionate and caring person who was always ready to support others. He was keen on sport, especially football, loved cooking and spent a lot of time in the kitchen. He was especially affectionate towards animals and constantly looked after them.
In 2023, Nazarii Murunov joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. He took part in the defence of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia sectors as part of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Zakarpattia Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For his service, he was awarded the President of Ukraine’s decoration – the Order “For Courage” III class, the honorary breast badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Golden Cross”, as well as the distinctions “Silver Edelweiss” and “Persistent and Unconquered”.
Nazarii Murunov is survived by his wife, parents, sister, nephew, grandfather and other family members.
