26-year-old combat medic from Nahachiv Yaruna Mruts dies in the war while saving lives

A heartbreaking loss has struck the Yavoriv community — 26-year-old combat medic Yaruna Mruts has returned home “on her shield.” Originally from the village of Nahachiv, she was known since childhood for her intelligence and thirst for knowledge. She skipped a grade early in school, scored top marks in Ukraine’s national exams, and was accepted into the Vinnytsia National Pirogov Medical University at just 15 years old.

In 2022, after a close friend was killed at the front, Yaruna — then working as an ambulance intern — made the courageous decision to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces. By March 2023, she became part of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Her military path developed rapidly. She started as a medical instructor and was later promoted to lieutenant, serving as the head of the medical post in the 210th Separate Assault Regiment.

Known under the call sign “Athena,” Yaruna earned deep respect from her comrades for her skill, dedication, and kindness — a trait she never lost, even amidst the harshest realities of war.

Her dream was simple: to rest and recover among her loved ones once the war was won. Tragically, her journey ended on the battlefield. Tomorrow, the people of Yavoriv will welcome their Heroine home for the final time.

Heartfelt condolences to her family — parents, brothers, grandmother, fiancé, friends, and fellow villagers — and to all who were touched by her bright soul.

The exact time and place of the cortege meeting will be announced separately.

Eternal memory and glory to the Heroine.
