26-year-old scout from Brody district Vasyl Tomashevskyi killed near Novopavlivka in Zaporizhzhia region

The war continues to take lives, destroy families, crush dreams, and silence young hearts. This week, the Brody community mourns once again — for the third time in recent days, the heartbreaking news of a local soldier’s death has arrived.

Vasyl Vasylovych Tomashevskyi, a courageous defender and reconnaissance specialist, died in battle. At just 19, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and when the full-scale invasion began, he stepped up to defend his country, already equipped with military training.

Vasyl served as a rangefinder-reconnaissance scout in the control unit of the battery commander of the 4th self-propelled artillery battery, part of the 2nd self-propelled artillery battalion. He was known for his sincerity, kindness, strength, and bravery — and that is how his family, comrades, and all who knew him will remember him.

He died while performing a combat mission in one of the most intense combat zones — near the village of Novopavlivka in Zaporizhzhia region.

He was only 26 years old. He gave his life so that others could live in peace and safety, for the future of his homeland.

The funeral motorcade will be met on November 13 at 4:00 PM at the entrance to the village of Smilne. A memorial service will take place at St. Nicholas Church, with the funeral scheduled for November 14 at 12:00 PM.

May the Lord grant rest to his soul. Our sincere condolences to his family, loved ones, and fellow soldiers.
Eternal honor and remembrance to the Hero.
