On Tuesday, 28 July, Lviv will hold a city farewell ceremony for servicemen Anton Starikov and Andrii Dzhychko, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities have called on residents of Lviv and visitors to join the farewell and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. After this, warrior Anton Starikov will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honourable Burials No.87 (Pasichna Street), and warrior Andrii Dzhychko at Holosko Cemetery, in Field 34-V.
Anton Starikov “Samorodok” (16.04.1980 — 09.12.2024) was a Lviv resident. He studied at Secondary Comprehensive School I–III Levels No.50 in Lviv, and later qualified as a power engineer at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic”. He worked as an operator in the boiler-turbine shop at LME “Lvivteploenergo”, and later in the transport department of SE “Lviv State Institute for Municipal Construction Design “Lvivdiprokomunbud”. Subsequently, he held the position of lead specialist for water supply and sewerage at the Engineering Services Department of the Housing and Infrastructure Department of Lviv City Council.
His relatives remember Anton as a kind, sincere and hard-working person, a responsible and courageous man and a loving father, who remained true to his principles and deeply loved Ukraine. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, was keen on cars and their repair, loved cooking and travelling, and cared for animals.
In 2024, Anton Starikov took up arms to defend the Motherland from the invasion of Russian troops. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine in the Donetsk sector as part of the 33rd Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is survived by his mother, daughter and other relatives.
Andrii Dzhychko (13.04.1997 — 25.07.2026) was also a Lviv resident. He studied at the Dyvosvit Primary School of Lviv City Council and the Sykhivskyi Lyceum of Lviv City Council, and graduated from the Catechetical School of the Righteous Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lviv. He obtained his higher education at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” specialising in “records management and document studies”.
After his studies he worked at LLC “Economic Security Agency “Efort”. According to his family, Andrii was sincere, kind, honest and open, and always sought to help those in need. He was passionate about computer games and anime, loved reading manga, and was interested in geography, history and politics; in his free time he relaxed in nature, went fishing and gathered mushrooms.
In 2024, Andrii Dzhychko voluntarily joined the ranks of the defenders to resist the Russian invasion. He served in the Donetsk sector as part of the 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state. For his service he was awarded the medal “War Veteran”. He is survived by his parents, sister, nephews and wider family.
