August 29 is observed as the Remembrance Day for Fallen Defenders of Ukraine. This day is dedicated to honoring those who have given their lives for the freedom and independence of our country.
This date was chosen deliberately: on August 29, 2014, in Ilovaisk, hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers perished when they were surrounded. Their feat has become a symbol of courage, self-sacrifice, and resilience of the Ukrainian people. Since then, thousands of new names have been inscribed in our nation’s book of memory.
Among them are our compatriots, the brave sons of the Velykomostivska community. They dreamed, made plans, loved their children and parents, but when the time came, they took up arms so that we could live under a peaceful sky.
Today, we remember not only the Heroes but also those who have been left to wait and will never see their loved ones again. Mothers who never saw their sons alive. Wives who did not greet their loved ones from the war. Children who grow up with photographs instead of hugs. Your sacrifice is the greatest, and the community bows its head low before your pain and courage.
We remember every name. We will not forget their faces, their voices, their dreams. Their graves are adorned with the blue and yellow flag, which now flies over free land.
Eternal memory and eternal honor to the Heroes! You are in our hearts. You are in our fight. You are in our Victory.
