On Monday, 31 August, a farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for serviceman Ihor Bezsmertnyi, who gave his life defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities are calling on Lviv residents and visitors to join the ceremony and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The farewell to the fallen defender will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide ceremony to honour the defender’s memory is planned on Rynok Square. The warrior will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the field of honourable burials on Pasichna Street.
Ihor Bezsmertnyi (09.03.1985 — 13.05.2024) was born in Lviv. He studied at secondary comprehensive school No. 95 in the city, and later qualified as a painter-plasterer at the state educational institution “Lviv Higher Vocational Polytechnic College”. After completing his compulsory military service, he worked as a repair works specialist at private enterprises.
His family remember Ihor as a kind, sensitive, polite and calm person, distinguished by his optimism and love of life, who was always smiling and caring towards his loved ones. He loved nature, especially the forest, and enjoyed fishing and mushroom picking.
In 2023, Ihor Bezsmertnyi joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders, taking up arms to protect the state from the Russian invasion. He served in the Zaporizhzhia sector as part of the 127th Separate Heavy Mechanised Kharkiv Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he defended the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The fallen serviceman is survived by his mother, daughter and brother.
