A major attempt to smuggle electronic devices was intercepted at the Nyzhankovychi border checkpoint. Border guards uncovered 829 Apple devices hidden in a Renault van entering Ukraine from Poland. The estimated value of the goods exceeds ₴35 million.
The incident took place during the night. Based on operational intelligence, servicemen of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, in cooperation with customs officials, carried out an in-depth inspection of the vehicle driven by a 37-year-old resident of the Lviv region. To avoid suspicion, the driver had picked up several passengers in Poland.
During the detailed inspection, officers discovered a specially equipped hidden compartment in the vehicle’s underbody, which contained:
- iPhone 15, 16, and 17 models,
- Apple Watches,
- AirPods wireless earbuds.
In total, 829 items of Apple equipment were seized.
The preliminary value of the confiscated electronics is estimated at over ₴35 million.
A report of the offense has been sent to the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Lviv region for further legal action.
