On 4 June, Lviv will bid farewell to three defenders of Ukraine

On 4 June, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for three servicemen who gave their lives defending Ukraine: Taras Lozynskyi, Vitalii Reznichenko and Zoltan Lakatosh. Residents are asked to refrain from entertainment and celebrations at this time.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the field of honourable burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street.

Taras Lozynskyi (29.12.1981 — 29.05.2026) was a native of Lviv. He studied at Vasyl Stefanyk Secondary School No. 22 in Lviv, then qualified as an engineer at the Lviv Vocational College of Food and Processing Industry of the National University of Food Technologies and at the National University of Food Technologies. He worked at PJSC “Lvivoblenergo”. According to relatives, from childhood he was fascinated by electronics and unmanned aerial vehicles and dreamed of creating his own aircraft. With the onset of the full-scale invasion, he took up arms to defend Ukraine, fighting in the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Southern Slobozhanskyi sectors as part of the 103rd Separate Territorial Defence Brigade named after Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. He was awarded the Presidential Decoration of Ukraine “For the Defence of Ukraine”, the honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Golden Cross”, the decoration of the 103rd Separate Brigade “Honour and Homeland” and the decoration of the Head of the Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defence Forces “West”. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents, brothers, grandmother, godmother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law and extended family.

Vitalii Reznichenko (22.03.1987 — 06.06.2025) was born in Kharkiv. He studied at Kharkiv Lyceum No. 10 of the Kharkiv City Council and worked as a repair technician at private enterprises. His relatives remember him as a kind, sincere and hard-working person who loved animals, music and nature, and cherished the comfort of family life. In 2025, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and defended the state in the Northern Slobozhanskyi sector as part of the 475th Separate Assault Regiment “CODE 9.2” of the Ground Forces. Vitalii Reznichenko is survived by his mother, wife, two sons, daughter, brother and extended family.

Zoltan Lakatosh (29.05.1968 — 24.10.2024) was born in the village of Barkasovo in Zakarpattia region. After finishing secondary school, he trained as a stonemason at the Perechyn Vocational Lyceum of the Zakarpattia Regional Council. He was passionate about the art of tattooing and loved animals. In 2024, he took up arms to defend Ukraine from the Russian invasion, fighting in the Donetsk sector as part of the 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is survived by friends and comrades-in-arms.
