Farewell in Lviv on 5 October to soldiers Roman Markevych, Serhii Zahrebelnyi and Volodymyr Moskviak

On 5 October in Lviv, a farewell ceremony will be held for servicemen Roman Markevych, Serhii Zahrebelnyi and Volodymyr Moskviak, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on Lviv residents and visitors to join the ceremony and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.

The funeral rite will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The burial will be held at Lychakiv Cemetery in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street.

Roman Markevych (18.05.1973 — 20.09.2026) was born in the town of Komarno, Lviv region. He studied at the Komarno Support Institution of General Secondary Education of Grades I–III of the Komarno City Council of Lviv region and completed compulsory military service. He worked as a furniture maker at private enterprises.

According to his family, Roman was a kind, positive and self-confident person, always ready to help. He was interested in mechanics, and loved fishing and spending time in nature. In 2024, he joined the ranks of Ukraine's defenders, safeguarding its territorial integrity and sovereignty in the Donetsk sector as part of the 58th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Roman Markevych is survived by his brother, nephews and extended family.

Volodymyr Moskviak (24.06.1986 — 26.09.2026) was originally from the village of Rohizno, Lviv region. He graduated from the Dunayiv Gymnasium of the Peremyshliany City Council of Lviv district, Lviv region, and later received vocational training at the Pomoriany Vocational Lyceum. He worked in the construction sector at private enterprises.

According to his loved ones, Volodymyr was kind, caring, hard-working and cheerful, known for his optimism and sociability. He was fond of fishing, hunting and motorsport. In 2024, he took up arms to defend Ukraine from the Russian invasion and fought in the Donetsk sector as part of the 45th Special-Purpose Regiment named after Oleksandr Krasitskyi of the National Guard of Ukraine. Volodymyr Moskviak is survived by his father, brothers, sister, uncle and his family, godparents, his beloved girlfriend and other relatives.

Serhii Zahrebelnyi (14.08.1979 — 01.10.2026) was born in the town of Kodyma, Odesa region. He studied at the municipal institution «Kodyma Lyceum» of the Kodyma City Council of Podilsk district, Odesa region. He received higher military education at the Odesa Institute of Ground Forces, and continued his studies at the Odesa National Academy of Telecommunications and the Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defence University of Ukraine.

He served in units of the Western Operational Command, where he rose from platoon commander to company commander. In 2013, he held the position of Head of the Group for Personnel Accounting of Composition and Deployment of Troops of the Organisational and Mobilisation Directorate of the Headquarters of the "North" Operational Command in Rivne. In 2014–2016, he took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), and later served in officer positions in the operational and territorial defence structures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After the start of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, he continued to defend the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.

Later, Serhii Zahrebelnyi served at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy. He held the positions of lecturer and senior lecturer at the Department of Tactics of the Faculty of Combat Employment of Troops, Deputy Head of the Department of Armoured Vehicles, and subsequently headed this department. His family say he was kind, fair and caring, took his professional duties very seriously, devoted a great deal of attention to his students, supported them and shared his experience. He was interested in information technology, studied foreign languages, and loved spending time in nature, fishing and mushroom picking. For his service he received numerous awards. Serhii Zahrebelnyi is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and his family.
