Andrii Hvozdetskyi from Truskavets Killed in Action for Ukraine

Andrii Hvozdetskyi returned to his native land at the Crossroads of Heroes, where he was received by family, friends, and government representatives. The event took place on 8 April. Deputy Head of Drohobych RDA, Yaroslav Petsiukh, Skhidnytsia Town Head Ivan Piliak, and Mayor of Truskavets Andrii Kulchynskyi were in attendance to pay their respects.

Hvozdetskyi was born on 6 December 1981 in the village of Opaka, near Skhidnytsia. He spent many years in Truskavets, where he attended Secondary School No. 1. After completing his education, he worked abroad but returned to defend Ukraine with the onset of the full-scale war. He served as a marksman-sniper in the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade in the Zaporizhzhia direction.

On 28 March 2026, Andrii was killed by a drone strike near the settlement of Mali Shcherbaky. Fellow villagers recall him as a friendly person with a great sense of humour. He is survived by his mother, son, and sister with her family.

At the Crossroads of Heroes, traffic halted, and people knelt in tribute. The funeral service was conducted by three priests. The funeral cortege proceeded through Truskavets, Boryslav, and Skhidnytsia to Opaka, where Hvozdetskyi will be buried on 9 April at the lower cemetery.
